When to go
Christchurch

Any time of year is a good time to visit Christchurch. The city has distinct seasons, which are the opposite of those in the UK. Summer lasts from December to February, with warm temperatures and long, sunny days perfect for the beach and water activities. This is also the time when most music festivals and other events take place in the city, including the International Buskers Festival, which draws talented performers from all over the world.

The winter from June to August is cold without being biting. It’s the season when the South Island comes into its own as a world-class skiing and snowboarding destination, with some championships taking place in the city as part of the Christchurch Winter Carnival in August. Spring from September to November and autumn from March to May are less crowded but are still a great time to visit and admire Canterbury's changing landscape.
