You’ll get to experience the city’s highlights with three great tours too: learn about the history of Nelsen Mandela and his incarceration at Robben Island; sample world-renowned grapes as you explore the Winelands; and spend a day in awe of the arresting bays, cliffs, hills and valleys at Cape Point.

Lauded for being the most luxurious train in the world, this journey takes you through the historic Victorian village of Matjiesfontein and the fertile valleys of Great Karoo and Klein Karoo, before stopping at Kimberley en route. Here you’ll explore the Diamond Mine Museum as well as gazing across the Big Hole – famous for being the largest man-made excavation in the world. And when you’re not soaking up all that postcard-perfect scenery, you can unwind in the refurbished wood-panelled Pullman sleeper suites, complete with en-suite bathrooms and a mini bar, stocked with drinks of your choice.

Johannesburg
Perhaps take a glimpse into its chequered past at the Apartheid Museum, discover the burgeoning Melville and Maboneng neighbourhoods, and sample some of the best BBQ restaurants in the country. If there’s time, consider a tour of Constitution Hill; the infamous prison is now a complex of museums and exhibitions.

And there couldn’t be a more exclusive bush escape to experience it all from; the Hamiltons Tented Camp exudes a 19th century style of luxury, miles away from the hustle and bustle of the cities.
