Jet into Auckland and sample its best foods and wines on a Taste of Auckland tour. Auckland is a bustling, modern city with a smattering of Polynesian heritage thrown in too. Its beautiful coastline is definitely worth exploring, as well as its volcanic scenery and historic houses. Continuing with the food theme – for dinner with a difference why not eat at Orbit 360°, a revolving restaurant at the top of the 190m Sky Tower. Take in the panoramic harbour views and watch the city lights twinkle as night falls.
5* Pullman Auckland
Taste of Auckland tour
Take the ferry to Waiheke Island, just 35 minutes from Auckland. Here you’ll find an idyllic slice of countryside inhabited by many millionaires. Visit the Historic Village or just walk the tracks and explore the fields, beaches and vineyards. It’s a great place to try some of the local wines too, including the excellent reds, favoured by the hot, dry climate. It’s also possible to sea kayak or fish here, but you could just hang out on the empty, white sand beaches and coves.
Continue to the shores of beautiful Lake Taupo, an area is filled with boiling mud pools, steaming vents, multi-coloured volcanic rocks and natural thermal pools. Sit back, relax and soak away life’s stresses in the rejuvenating waters. You’ll take a peaceful cruise on the lake itself, but to see it in more detail try hiking or mountain biking on the region’s many trails, or be a daredevil with a spot of rafting or bungee jumping.
5* Acacia Cliffs Lodge

Cycle the Wineries Ride Trail around the Ngatarawa Triangle from Napier, taking in the bucolic scenery, visiting nine acclaimed wineries and tasting the top notch wines. Back in town, admire the Art Deco architecture, including the iconic Daily telegraph office, all well-preserved following its rebuild after the devastating 1931 earthquake. You can even re-enact the Great Gatsby with a tour of town from the comfort of a chauffer driven vintage car.
