Fly from UK to Sydney
Explore the vibrant streets of Sydney on foot, taking in Darling Harbour, the Rocks and the iconic white sails of the Sydney Opera House. Perhaps climb the Harbour Bridge or look out for flying foxes in the Botanical Gardens. Later it’s time for your Sydney highlight - take to the skies over the city in a seaplane, soaring over the harbour and the world famous Bondi Beach. Touch down for a delicious lunch overlooking the harbour at Rose Bay.
Sit back and soak up the sea views from your luxury resort on the privately-owned Hayman Island. The most northerly of the Whitsunday Islands, Hayman is blessed with pristine beaches and year-round sunshine, and there’s plenty of opportunity for beach lazing. If you can prize yourself from the sand there are bush walks into the forested interior to enjoy or perhaps play a game of tennis or squash. With all this, plus beautiful corals to explore, you’ll never want to leave.
Return to the mainland and stay in Cairns for the night. Why not take an evening stroll along the esplanade or people watch over a cappuccino from one of the many cafes. Shop for souvenirs such as opals, jewellery and clothing in the night markets or, if you’re here on a Saturday, try the fresh local breads, chocolates and cheeses at the Farm gate Market. As you’re by the sea, what better way to spend the evening than over a platter of fresh seafood and a crisp glass of Australian wine?
Travel by helicopter to Orpheus Island, just 11km long and 1km wide. Being so small, the island lends itself well to exploring on foot, so grab your boots, head into the forests and take in the views. Orpheus Island is within easy reach of the Great Barrier Reef, so is the perfect place to learn to dive and spot some of the 1,000 different species of tropical fish among the corals. But perhaps you’d rather grab a book, find a shady spot and relax with a chilled cocktail.
Fly on by helicopter to the secluded Lizard Island, fringed with soft white beaches and surrounded by warm, clear seas. Explore the colourful corals in a glass-bottomed boat or grab a snorkel, which along with motorised dinghies, tennis, paddle skis and picnic hampers, are included at your resort. So what better excuse to head to a remote sand bar and chill out with a picnic lunch? Alternatively you could set sail on a romantic sunset cruise or treat yourself to a pamper session in the spa.
Board your helicopter one more time and return to the mainland and laid-back Port Douglas. Stroll along the dappled alleyways, browse the boutique shops and admire the historical architecture, soaking in the relaxed, small-town atmosphere. Take a walk on the soft sands of Four Mile Beach, whose palm tree-lined shoreline begins at the end of the town’s main shopping street. Just outside town, spot kangaroos and emus in the forests or head to Wildlife Habitat to learn about the local flora and fauna.
Depart Port Douglas and return to the UK
