Depending on your arrival time, you should have some time to explore Playa del Carmen, a trendy city known for its beaches, and where you’ll find plenty of bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. Perhaps splash about in a water park, try some snorkelling, or simply acclimatise to the Mexican sunshine with a relaxed drink by the ocean.

Merida

Merida

After discovering the pyramids and temples with a local expert guide, you’ll continue to Merida and join your CEO for a walking tour. The next day you’ll have the option (for an additional cost) to visit the ruins of Uxmal, a former Mayan settlement and World Heritage site, or to swim in the famous cenotes, underground pools filled with bright blue waters, that are dotted around the Yucatan.

Days 5-7
Palenque

Palenque

You’ll take in the Temple of the Cross Group, the Temple of Inscriptions and the Grand palace with your guide before having some free time to discover the area. Choose to hike the jungle trails and learn about the wildlife that lives here, visit the Roberto Barrios Waterfalls for a swim or take a look around the fascinating Yaxchilan and Bonampak Ruins near the Guatemala border (all at extra cost).

Days 8-9
San Jose

San Jose

You’ll have the option (extra cost) to take a boat ride around Lake Peten Itza, where you can swim and explore the island of Flores. The next day, you’ll join a full day guided tour of the Tikal ruins, a Mayan site found deep in the jungle in Tikal National Park. Here, you’ll find the ruins of over 3,000 structures dating from 600 BC, as well as having the chance to spot monkeys, anteaters, armadillos and macaws. Later on, you can relax with a refreshing dip in the lake.

Days 10-11
San Ignacio

San Ignacio

On the way, you’ll take part in a pottery demonstration and have lunch at a women’s pottery cooperative sponsored by G Adventures. Once in San Ignacio, you’ll have the opportunity to go horse riding, canoeing, caving, tubing or hiking among the waterfalls and jungles of the Mountain Pine Ridge. Or perhaps choose to visit Xunantunich, a collection of ruined Mayan temples and palaces (all extra cost).

Days 12-13
Caye Caulker

Caye Caulker

Here you have two days to explore: choose to discover the coral reefs with a snorkel, try your hand at scuba diving or look for manatees. For the chance to spot stingrays, sharks and turtles, try Hol Chan Marine Reserve. If land is more your bag, then perhaps rent a bike as part of the Bike with a Purpose project and explore the island (all extra cost), or take a scenic flight over Blue Hole National Park.

Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen

While you’re here, you could choose to visit the island of Cozumel, which is an excellent diving spot, or explore the ruins of Tulum (both extra cost). The next day is free for you to explore at your own pace – perhaps swim in a cenote, or take a boat trip in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, before enjoying your farewell dinner at El Hongo Mexican Community Restaurant & Youth Art Program.
