Top 5 Questions for RTW Experts
In this post RTWE Travel Consultant Pete Churchill steps up to answer the top five questions he and his fellow travel agents are usually asked.
Does RTWE just do flights?
It might sound odd, but working for a company that is part of Flight Centre, this is a question we get asked quite often. The answer is emphatically, no. While flights are something of a speciality, as that is what people are enquiring about most often, we are also experts in hotels, tours, transportation, insurance and even certain visas. If you are planning a holiday the best thing you can do is give us as much information as possible – it makes our job much easier and will ultimately enable us to put together a whole package that is perfectly suited to your needs. That’s what we’re here for!
Do I have to go round the world to book with you?
In a similar vein, although the clue is in the name – Round the World Experts – no, you do not have to go around the world to book flights with us. We can book anything, we just specialise in long haul, complex itineraries, whether they are going all the way round the world or to the other side of the world and back the same way again. Having said that, we will gladly help with any holiday you are looking to go on.
Is it better to leave it until nearer the time to book the flights?
This is the big one for us as consultants and I’m still not really sure where people get this from. There seems to be this idea that airlines suddenly drop their prices at the very last minute in order to fill spaces on planes. They don’t. Categorically not. The longer you leave it the more expensive the flights will be, so the earlier you book, the better (there is a caveat to this that I will address in the next question). This is particularly true if you are looking to go anywhere in December or early January; this is the busiest, most expensive time of year and you would not believe how quickly the good rates on sell out. Plan your holidays well in advance!
How far in advance can I book my flights?
As it stands at the moment, no airline publishes their flights more than 11 months in advance (hence the caveat) and quite a few a lot less than that. So, if you are looking to go in a couple of years time I applaud your organisational skills and as much as we would love to help you get under way the best we will be able to do is provide you with a rough estimate of price, times and routings until the flights are actually published.
I’d like an open-ended/flexible ticket…
Alright, so strictly speaking not a question, but something that we get asked about a lot when dealing with more complex year long enqiries and definitely worth addressing. There is no such thing as an open-ended ticket, the absolute maximum that any airline ticket is valid for is 12 months/1 year/365 days. No exceptions, no bending of rules, that’s it. If you do want to go away for more than a year, great, you’ll have a brilliant time, but you won’t be able to get a return ticket. Buy that much vaunted one way ticket to who-knows-where and see where the road takes you.
As far as flexible tickets go, we have a service called the Travel Butler included in all our flights, which makes changing your flights as easy and efficient as possible. Most flights, with certain special offer exceptions, will offer the ability to change your flights as the airlines understand not everyone knows exactly how long they want to spend in each place when they’re planning so far in advance.
