Here in the Round the World Experts office, travel is unsurprisingly our favourite topic of conversation. As the New Year is here and our holiday entitlement resets to zero, much to our collective delight we, just like you, are in the midst of plotting our own adventures for the forthcoming year. And so, after the success of last year’s wishlist, the Round the World team has once again put aside some time to get together and share our travel plans for 2017. All in the name of research you understand.

Wished by: Alex Gregg
As an unashamed wildlife lover, visiting one of the most biodiverse places on the planet has always been pretty high on Alex’s to-do list. And with Costa Rica becoming more and more accessible (new flights with British Airways to San Jose launched in late 2015), she’s sure there’s no better time to go than now. While she’s there, Alex wants to hike the Arenal volcano, spot three-toed sloths in Manuel Antonio National Park and get soggy in the Monteverde Cloud Forest – to name a few. Although she’d also love to give zip-lining a go, Alex is most looking forward to having the chance to see endangered green turtle hatchlings at Tortuguero National Park and getting caught in a proper rainforest storm. Sounds good to me.

Orangutan and baby
Wished by: Chris Steel
“Jungles are awesome!” declares Chris, before adding, “My partner, son and I all love wildlife. We went to Tanzania a couple of years ago and had such a great time.”
So to continue the animals theme, Chris is planning to jet off on one of Round the World Experts’ family-orientated small-group journeys. He’s been talking about it for a while now, so we’re all pretty jealous. Among other things, he’s going to be hiking through jungle, spotting orangutans in the Sepilok forest, cruising down the Kinabatangan River, and keeping an eye out for turtles.
Jimbaran Bay, Bali
Wished by: Tess Watkins
Tess has wanted to visit Bali for as long as she can remember, telling us “the rice-terraced hills, lava-clad peaks, rugged coastlines and beautiful beaches have been calling me for years; plus it is one of the best spots in the world to surf.”
When she gets there Tess wants to go white-water raft along the Ayung River, embark on a sunrise trek to Mount Batur, take part in a food safari and ride the towering waves at Uluwatu. But most of all she’s looking forward to watching the sunsets over Jimbaran Bay, saying “I can’t wait to sip a chilled glass of wine and watch the world turn golden over the crescent-shaped beach.” Can we all come with you?

Wished by: Angel Hristov
Bucking the trend for long-haul holidays that the rest of us are planning, Angel wanted to find a destination between the UK and Bulgaria (his home country) where he could meet with his relatives and have a big family holiday. Angel explains, “Montenegro seemed to tick all the boxes: slightly outside the norm with stunning nature, Mediterranean beaches, forests, walks and loads of culture and history around Budva with the quaint Stari Grad (Old Town), as well as the likes of Sveti Stefan Island and Lovcen National Park which are perfect for day trips.”
Angel is most looking forward to visiting a new country and getting experience of a new culture, telling us excitedly, “It’s all about new experiences! And the views look amazing!”

Taj Mahal, India
Wished by: Nicola Kennedy
India is a place that Nicola and her fiancé Dan have both always wanted to go. Newly engaged, they are now working their way through a list of places to go before they have children, and as Dan has always wanted to see a Tiger the in wild, India seemed the obvious choice. A luxury lover, Nicola is looking forward to India’s amazing hotels and plans to see all of the highlights: the Taj Mahal, Delhi, Varanasi for the Ganges and Ranthambore for tiger safaris. Phew, sounds exhausting! Luckily she’s left room for some time relaxing on the beach in Goa.

Trekking in Nepal
Wished by: Angela Griffin
And me? In early January, the depths of the Himalayan winter, my husband David and I shall be fulfilling a life-long dream by visiting Nepal. David’s a massive fan of mountain scenery and when we visited Shimla in India a few years back the Himalayas were tantalisingly close, and we promised each other that one day we would come back and explore in more detail.
When we get there, we’ll be touring the temples and shrines of Kathmandu, then donning our hiking boots and trekking to Everest Base Camp, a 12-day, high altitude climb that is going to take a lot of sweat and determination. We’ve already started training in earnest. Although reaching Base Camp is an achievement in itself, most of all I’m excited about having a much-deserved glass of wine at the Everest View Hotel afterwards.
