Areas of Mumbai

Colaba: Colaba is the gateway of Mumbai where a majority of the tourists stay. It starts with Gateway Of India the landmark of Mumbai, the Taj Mahal Hotel opposite the Gateway Of India and Radio Club situated on the other side.

Juhu: From Bandra two roads are divided i.e. S.V. Road and Linking Road. Linking Road takes you to the famous Juhu Beach where Mumbai's big hotels are situated. Juhu Beach is famous for Sunday evening outings for Mumbaites.

Bandra: This 'Queen of the Suburbs' is largely populated by Catholics and is one of the most cosmopolitan areas of Mumbai. You can shop at Linking Road for footwear and leather goods. If you like to shop for Gold/Silver you could do so at the jewellery shops located on Waterfield Road.

Irla/Andheri(West): From Juhu beach the same is located near Cooper Hospital. It is famous for shopping imported items. At Andheri Shopper's Stop is one of the biggest shopping malls of Mumbai and is famous for its quality.

 

Getting there and around

The Chattrapathi Shivaji International Airport is located 30km from downtown Mumbai.

Santa Cruz Domestic Airport is located 25km from downtown Mumbai.

Good public transport system including: metered taxis, Rickshaws, local buses and trains.

 

Sightseeing Ideas

Gateway of India: The Gateway of India is also known as Apollo Bunder and was designed by George Wittet to commemorate George V and Queen Mary's visit to India in 1911. You can have a picturesque view of the very famous Taj Mahal Hotel.

Elephanta Island: Elephanta Island makes Mumbai an obligatory stop. The island, reachable within an hour by boat, has old rock-cut Hindu temples, shrines and caves that date back from the 6th century. The Elephanta Caves have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Hanging Gardens: The Hanging Gardens makes another must see site in Mumbai. The park was built during the early 1880s over Mumbai's main reservoir at the top of the Malabar Hills.

Vie Deck & Lounge: DJs spinning the latest Balearic beats, and sweeping ocean views from its sprawling deck, you expect to find this kind of bar in Ibiza. Vie is packed with glamorous, perfumed scenesters, among them Bollywood kings/Queens. Its sleek dining space, with a seafood and spicy, er, Cajun menu, is a hit, while those Bellinis and Martinis mixed to perfection. Not to be missed!

Juhu Beach: Juhu Beach is a place that attracts a large number of visitors throughout the year. Characterised by walkers, screaming children and courting couples, the beach covers an area of about 5km. Acvities include camel rides, pony rides, acrobats, performing monkeys and entertainers will keep you enthralled all the time.
